Here are a collection of our trap making videos. Sorry there isn't any sound on these clips. All the equipment you can see are available from Here
The wire mesh is wound off the roll and pulled through the straightner for a flat panel. The wire is then cut to size with a pair of pneumatic (air powered) wire cutters.
The panel is then put on end and the stubbs are cut off.
In this clip you can see the wire mesh panel being folded with our wire bender.
With the body bent we can now attach the the side panel and start bringing our trap together. The tool used here is a pneumatic ProClinch clipping tool which pulls the wire together with marine grade alloy clips. These clips are specifically designed for fish traps as the are very strong and will not rust.

Same process as before but closer and a better angle.
Now we attach the green oak runners, they're hard wearing and have minimal buoyancy. These offer protection to the bottom of the trap and the boat. The runners are stapled to the trap using a pneumatic stapler (air powered) and the rubber strips are used for impact protection to protect the wire coating.
The entrance hole is cut out using a pair of heavy duty air snips and they cut through the wire we ease. The bottom of the entrance is then stepped in to give an angle for when the netted side entrance is attached.
The bridge is attached to give the trap strength and rigidity. The bridge is a wire mesh panel four squares wide folded four times into a square. The bridge is the attached to the trap with the ProClich clipping tool.
The side bridges act in the same way as the main bridge. These are attached to the trap with the ProClinch Clipping tool.
The brickcage is a bent mesh panel attached to the trap with the ProClinch Clipping tool. The brickcage holds the bricks in place. The bricks are used for ballast, this keeps the trap on the sea bed and the right way up. The bricks used are paver bricks
The front scuff panel is attached to the trap with the ProClinch Clipping Tool. The front scuff acts as protection to the front edge of the trap

The Parlour Net is fitted to the trap with a semi automatic hogring plier. The tool is fed with taped backed hogrings. As soon as one clip is used a new hogring is automatically loaded into the jaw.

A piece of twine is attached to each side of the parlour net and then pulled tight and knotted. This keeps the parlour net ramp tight and stops it from falling into the parlour and prevents the lobsters from climbing back out.
The side eye entrance is made up of net and a 5.5" aluminum ring. It is attached in the same way as the parlour net with the semi automatic hogring plier.
With the trap on its side knot a piece of twine to one of the aluminium rings and then attach it to the other and pull tight. This pulls the rings together and adds structure to both entrances and an angle to the ring so that the lobsters cannot get out.
The door is a flat panel of mesh that we've fitted with a section of braid and then Proclinched ( watch your fingers! ). You can also attach it with hogrings or clips. Its up to you.
The bungee door hook is made of a piece of mesh bent into a hook, that is then attached to a piece of 6.5mm shock cord. The shock cord is hogringed in to a loop through the mesh hook with a piece of twine on the end to pull on.
Attach it to the trap and pull tight to keep the door shut.
